Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 17, 2026
FoodPea.com (“we”, “our”, “us”) is an independent Canadian culinary resource. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit our site, how we use it, and the rights you have over it — including your rights under Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
If you have any questions about this policy or your personal information, contact us at hello@foodpea.com.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us directly
We collect personal information you voluntarily provide, such as:
- Contact details: your name and email address when you use our contact form or email us at hello@foodpea.com.
- Message content: whatever you include in your message — recipe questions, feedback, corrections.
We do not ask for, and you should not send us, sensitive information such as financial details, government ID numbers, or health records.
Information collected automatically
When you browse FoodPea.com, we and our service providers automatically collect certain technical information:
- Log data: your IP address, browser type and version, operating system, referring page, pages visited, and the date and time of your visit.
- Device information: device type, screen size, and general (non-precise) location inferred from your IP address, such as your province or city.
- Cookies and similar technologies: see Section 3 below.
Analytics
We use web analytics tools (such as Google Analytics or a privacy-respecting equivalent) to understand how visitors use our site — which recipes are popular, how people find us, and where they drop off. Analytics data is aggregated and does not identify you personally. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
2. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Respond to your messages and questions.
- Operate, maintain, and improve FoodPea.com and its content.
- Understand readership trends so we can publish more of what Canadian home cooks actually want.
- Detect and prevent spam, abuse, and security issues.
- Comply with legal obligations.
- Display advertising (see Section 4).
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
3. Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use the following types:
- Strictly necessary cookies: required for the site to function (for example, remembering cookie-consent choices). These cannot be disabled.
- Preference cookies: remember settings such as your cookie-consent decision.
- Analytics cookies: help us measure traffic and understand which content performs well.
- Advertising cookies: used by Google AdSense and its partners to show you ads and measure their performance (see Section 4).
On your first visit, you’ll see a cookie-consent banner where you can accept or manage non-essential cookies. You can also control cookies through your browser settings at any time — most browsers let you block or delete cookies, though blocking necessary cookies may affect how the site works.
4. Advertising — Google AdSense
FoodPea.com displays ads served by Google AdSense. Google uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to our site and other sites on the internet:
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings.
- You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting youradchoices.ca (Canada) or aboutads.info.
For more detail, see Google’s advertising policies and Google’s Privacy Policy. We do not control the cookies set by Google or other ad partners; their use of your information is governed by their own policies.
5. Your rights under PIPEDA (Canada)
As a Canadian site serving Canadian visitors, we follow PIPEDA’s ten fair information principles: accountability, identifying purposes, consent, limiting collection, limiting use/disclosure/retention, accuracy, safeguards, openness, individual access, and challenging compliance. In plain terms, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we hold about you and how we use it.
- Access your personal information — email hello@foodpea.com with “Privacy Access Request” in the subject line and we’ll respond within 30 days.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information we hold about you.
- Withdraw consent for uses that depend on it (for example, marketing emails — though we rarely send any).
- Challenge our compliance with PIPEDA. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
We will never ask you to pay a fee to exercise these rights, and we will verify your identity before releasing personal information to make sure we’re giving it to the right person.
6. Your rights under the GDPR (EEA/UK visitors)
If you visit from the European Economic Area or the UK, you additionally have the right to erasure, data portability, restriction of processing, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. Contact hello@foodpea.com to exercise these rights.
7. Data retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy:
- Contact-form and email correspondence: up to 2 years after our last exchange, then deleted.
- Analytics and log data: aggregated or deleted within 26 months.
- Cookie-consent records: up to 1 year.
8. Data security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information — secure hosting, encrypted connections (HTTPS) across the site, and limited access to any personal data we hold. Contact-form submissions are transmitted securely and stored only as long as needed to handle your enquiry. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but we do our best with the tools available to a small independent site.
8a. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Some browsers offer “Do Not Track” (DNT) or Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals. We honour GPC signals where technically feasible by limiting non-essential tracking for visitors who send them. Because there is no single legal standard for DNT, our response to legacy DNT headers may vary — but our cookie-consent banner always gives you direct control regardless.
9. International transfers
Our hosting and service providers (including analytics and advertising partners) may process data on servers outside Canada, including in the United States. Where this happens, we rely on contractual protections and the providers’ published privacy commitments.
10. Children’s privacy
FoodPea.com is a general-audience cooking site, not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — for example, if we change analytics providers or advertising partners. We’ll post the updated version here with a new “last updated” date. Material changes will be highlighted at the top of this page for 30 days.
12. Contact us
For any privacy question, access request, or complaint, email hello@foodpea.com with “Privacy” in the subject line. We’ll get back to you within 30 days.
